My husband is in the Army, and I was pretty damn surprised to learn that the Army recognized Wicca as a religion. Pleased, but surprised. :) Pretty freakin conspicuous to be absent from a list like the people in charge os the Veteran stuff has, isn't it?

I hope they win...if anything to bring back meaning to that whole "freedom of religion" bit. ;)

What I don't understand is that poll - I know there are plenty of crazy Christians or Insert-Religion-Here-ists that believe anyone who doesn't have the same faith as them is just ... you know. Going to the Bad Afterlife of your choice, but why is it anyone else's business what an individual or their family wants depicted on a tombstone?

This is perhaps one of the many, many things that I hate about people. *sigh*

I agree.

I was curious about what the symbols for those smaller ones are. Here's a link:

(I want an atheist tattoo!)

About (insert diety of your choice)damned time.

My grandfather is buried under a cross, but I'm sure the little people still know where he is, and watch over him, with rabbit and tortise and the rest.

Yeah, say what one will about Selena Fox, but I'm glad she's taking on this fight. I can't see how they can justify dragging their feet anymore when, as the article states, it's on dogtags, they have Pagan chaplains, and so on.

Yeah, dark_christian had this one too.

I don't get it. I thought it was already okay.

And are there any pagan chaplains in the military?

:sigh:

If you can get the symbol for atheism (which technically isn't a religion, right?) then I don't see why you can't get a pentacle.

Soooo it's ok to have the symbol for Atheism, or Humanism, or frankly for some religious faiths I've never heard of - but not for the pentacle.

So this leaves me to believe they don't worry about the other symbols because no one is going to recognize them...where as as soon as they put up the pentacle, someone is going to yell SATAN WORSHIPPER - because after all, the pentacle is all about the devil. Sigh.

Essentially they're saying we'll go along with this Wiccan pretend religion stuff because you're fighting for us, but once you're dead, well screw off.

If the freedom of religion act is to be maintained, they should win the lawsuit.

I do know that some branches of the government already do recognize Wicca or other pagan sects (now I can't remember if it was Wicca specificly or just Paganism in general).
