"Bats invest an enormous amount in testis, and the investment has to come from somewhere. There are no free lunches," (said some guy who wasn't even involved in the study)

That part made me literally laugh out loud. :)

I'm rather relieved I got stuck with the brains. ;)

LOL! But Bard, I've seen your balls quite a few times on the forums, and they're as big as they come.

That's pretty interesting actually. I've forwarded it to our bat group. The bats we tend to get as injured/dehydrated, and needing cate, all tend to be rather well "developed" and stupid enough to fly into a tennis net, or a window or such... We're the ICU of the bat group, so we see them all first. Silly critters.

Just goes to show!

Thanks for posting that... finally something interesting in the news to read. :)

Ah, but it's such a male-dominated world of science. It's all the females' fault. The species with the slutty female bats developed the "outrageously big testes." You can't waste those metabolic resources on developing a large brain when you're surrounded by the seductive chirping of a leathery-winged harem, just demanding for you to service them!

In the spirit of those science magazines we got when we were kids, here's a fun activity - what if your SO was a male bat? Anywhere from 0.6 percent to 8.5 percent of his body mass could = testes!! Even at the low end for my husband, that's 1.5 lbs of balls, baby.

Eww...that's just excessive!

I find it amusing that the faithful females are sticking with the smarter male bats :D

I believe in testicle moderation. ;)

I guess that explains why I'm stupid.

...and the award for the best post I've read all night goes to...

That put a well needed smile on my face.
Thanks Beth!

It put an even bigger smile on my face when I took Ivy's advice and did the testicle equation for Teddy. ;)

*hugs kimchi!*
