Welcome to my future hell. From all accounts I've heard from my fellow grads, that's pretty much the same group I'm going to face when I start teaching this Fall. Brain meltdown imminent...
Yeah, that's the kind of mentality that gives us a President who only wants to talk about a pig barbecue than the potential start of World War III. "I thought you were gonna ask me about the pig!"
I don't think it's got anything to do with conservatism or wanting to take away votes, but has everything to do with the fact that the girls had no idea what the word meant.
I think many of them thought he might be talking about women's suffering.
And actually I don't think the public school would have been any different. I attended both private, public, and Catholic schools. And I have to say that there is always going to be some people that don't know what a word means.
I also don't see how the Catholic religion would have anything to do with people being conservative or not. I live in a HUGE Catholic area and I meet as many liberal Catholics as I do conservative Catholics, and haven't met one woman who would actually want women's suffarge.

I concur!
Plus, for the record, I went to a Catholic school for years, and never met a single person who would ever have suggested that women should not vote - or be able to do anything else, for that matter.
My favorite part is when he goes up to a guy and a girl & asks the girl to sign the petition. Then the guy she was with told her what suffarge meant but she still signed it. Uhm hello?! You would think a red flag would of gone off in her mind. *rolls eyes*
Many of the students were apparently younger girls, eager to sign virtually whatever a senior boy wanted them to, and they sure regretted it later. Or something like that. That's a bit much, but the video was mean. They're just kids. I think it's equally important for male students to know what women's suffrage means, and thought the video smacked of sexism in its sole targeting of girls and "tee-hee, ain't they idiots!?" tone. I hate this culture where everyone wants to be on camera, and people don't have ethical qualms about putting a video of 14 year-olds doing something stupid on the Internet, where it will never go away.

They are S-M-R-T Smart! *sigh*
Not that men would do any better, mind you.
I weep for our future.
I'm not sure how hopeful I am, though.
well, being that it's a catholic school, they might be just conservative enough to actually want that. but idunno.
something tells me that if they tried it at a public school, it wouldn't go over so well.
he said what it meant though, i think, to most of them...

I think I'm officially getting old :P
