My current mantra: "Two more years...two more years...two more years...two more years...."

Shallow? Maybe. It doesn't make the observation any less true. ;)

I...I have no words for that one - geez. Opening your mail? Without having to prove they have a valid reason?

Ok I have words. Impeach him already.

Oh lord, oh lord, oh lord. Do you think two years is long enough for him to put ID microchips in everyone and add "Of" to all the female names?

Dear lord, I hope not.

(Slightly off-topic, but I still vote for The Handmaid's Tale as one of the scariest books I've ever read.)

Isn't it time for the American people to say enough is enough?

Nah, not until it affects their nightly tv viewing. Now *that* they'd get worked up about :P

My cherished fantasy is that in 2008 (or sooner), there is going to be a new set of trials at The Hague, and possibly new tenants at Spandau in the aftermath.

I know that it's probably never gonna happen, but a woman can dream.

It's an interesting observation: a few years ago, my dear overworked grad student was at an international mathematical biology conference in Scotland. Other attendees were a little wary upon learning that he was from the US, until they realized that his politics are firmly liberal-tarian. One of them -- a chap from Germany -- gave Dear One the advice that the US really didn't want its politics to continue on the path that they were taking, as it was a Bad Thing. He summed it up with "Trust me; we [in Germany] know."

My theory is that the country's too damned spread out for people to be able to effectively challenge/protest the government.
