For the love of all things holy...

... does anyone know of any prints of Marc Davis' pirate wench? I've been trying to get a hold of one for 20+ friggin' years.

I know that there's a service at both the park (at the gallery above POTC) and at World of Disney Downtown, that can print you quite a few of the park's pictures- I've seen the cat-woman and otheres from the mansion, and I've got a Cap't Sparrow caricature (the one from the wall on the ride). You might want to see if they've got her- you can even have it printed on canvas.

Well, no, but I adore that icon. Hee.

Sorry, luv; the best I could do was the pin.

By the way, my research has uncovered that the official title of the painting is "A Portrait of Things to Come", and was painted by Marc Davis as a tribute to the redheaded wench being auctioned off in the ride, and her eventual descent into piracy. All of which you probably already knew. ;)

At any rate, you're not the only one griping about the unavailability of the print, despite its prominent display. There are at least two threads on Disney fan boards discussing the same issue (and probably more if I had time to dig.) Maybe if we keep hammering at the park they'll get their act together and make it available? Because I want one too!

Okay, I did some more digging this afternoon.

It does not appear that any of the Disney schwag vendors offer an authorized version, even though the World of Disney store in Orlando Downtown Disney has it prominently displayed. This is akin to constantly teasing Tantalus with grapes and water that the poor bastard never gets to grab ahold of. Not fair in the least.

However, I did find a DeviantArt member who did her own rendition of it (possibly out of spite at House of Mouse.) I wasn't able to figure out if she offers prints of it, though. Here are the links to version one and version two.

While they don't have quite the same cachet as the original, a print of one of these might actually be available.

Nope, I haunt the Art of Disney stores here in Florida and they still haven't put her up on offer.
